Tbilisi - Signagi - Bodbe- Wine tasting and Museum of Shumi - Tbilisi

«Bodbe» –  On June 1, Orthodox Church of Georgia marks the day of St. Nino’s entrance from Cappadocia. Her tomb is still shown at the Bodbe Monastery in Kakheti region. St. Nino has become one of the most venerated saints of the Georgian Orthodox Church and her attribute, a Grapevine cross, is a symbol of Georgian Christianity. The monastery now functions as a nunnery and is one of the major pilgrimage sites in Georgia, due to its association with St. Nino, the 4th-century female evangelist of Georgians, whose relics are shrined there.​

 

«Signagi» - is a small town of Kakheti. In 2007 began reconstruction of the city which turned into a city called “image of Georgian tourism”. Now it is one of the visited places in Georgia. It was built in the second half of the XVIII century, During the reigning period of King Irakli II. Buildings are constructed in a southern Italian classicism mixed with Georgian elements. This castle is famous in Georgia as one of the largest castles in Georgia. The walls of the Signagi fortress is surrounded by an old part of the town and goes far beyond the city boundaries with a magnificent view of the Alazany Valley.

Here we will enjoy  refreshments and drinks from a famous local wine cellar where we will have an opportunity to taste wine straight from Qvevri (a large pitcher) and tourists will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the process of baking Georgian bread, roast barbeque, get acquainted with the history of producing grape vodka, and taste the traditional Kakheti wine and grape vodka chacha.

“Wine company Shumi” - is one of the leaders among producers of high quality Georgian wines. In ancient Georgia, the word “Shumi” meant genuine, undiluted wine. It has long  since been used as a defining term for the best wine. The logo of the company is a griffin (“Phaskunji” in Georgian mythology), which according to ancient legend brought the very first bunch of grapes to the people. It was from these grapes that people started growing vines on earth.
